I never paint anything I haven’t experienced myself. My work is rooted in feelings, although I do take photos on my phone to refer back to. I often combine inspiration from several photos to create a new work.
I create texture with oil paints. I occasionally incorporate sand to achieve a specific texture.
I like my viewers to feel and identify with an experience when viewing my work. I find large canvases allow the viewer to immerse themselves and “travel” into the work. The smallest size canvas I work with is 30” x 40” for an ocean piece and 40” x 40” for a forest piece.
In between applying the layers of oil paint, my work has to dry for several days. Often I work on four or five painting at the same time and rotate them in my studio. On average my work is in the studio for two to three months.
Depending on how heavily the painting is textured, some pieces can take up to 6 to 8 months to dry completely. Even so, most of my paintings will be touch dry and ready for shipment within 4 to 6 weeks.
I am able to help coordinate shipping worldwide. In fact, many of my paintings are part of art collections around the world, including but not limited to exhibits in the USA, China, England, Japan, Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. Shipping charges and taxes are in addition to my art prices.
Once the paint has dried completely and is rock hard, a soft, clean brush can be used to remove any dust that may accumulate on the texture of the work.
